Coaching Career

  • Gunter Brewer enters his sixth season at Oklahoma State and will be in charge of the outside receivers after spending the last two seasons in the role of co-offensive coordinator. Brewer coached receivers in 2009 and quarterbacks in 2008 and served the previous three seasons as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.
  • Brewer has coached 16 players who have gone on to professional football careers, highlighted by record-setting receivers Randy Moss and Dez Bryant.
  • Under Brewer, the Cowboys averaged 28.4 points per game in 2009 and continued to be one of the most balanced offenses in the nation. OSU's offense averaged 376.2 yards per game -- a Big 12-best 187.8 yards per game on the ground and 179.5 through the air.
  • The 2009 Cowboy offense produced three all-Big 12 first team selections - running back Keith Toston, fullback Bryant Ward and tackle Russell Okung, who was a finalist for the Outland Trophy.
  • With Brewer serving as co-offensive coordinator, the 2008 Cowboy offense produced a pair of first-team All-Americans in wide receiver Dez Bryant (Walter Camp and American Football Coaches Association) and running back Kendall Hunter (Football Writers Association of America), to go with a first-team all-Big 12 offensive lineman in Russell Okung and a first-round draft pick in tight end Brandon Pettigrew.
  • In 2008, Brewer served as a co-coordinator for a Cowboy offense that boasted a Manning Award finalist (Zac Robinson), a Biletnikoff Award finalist (Dez Bryant) and a Mackey Award finalist (Brandon Pettigrew).
  • With Brewer as his position coach, Cowboy quarterback Zac Robinson was a finalist for the Manning Award presented to the nation's top quarterback and ranked fifth nationally in pass efficiency at 166.8 and was 18th nationally in total offense.
  • The 2008 Cowboy offense ranked in the top 10 nationally in rushing, total offense, scoring and pass efficiency.
  • The 2007 Cowboy offensive unit ranked seventh in the nation with 486.3 yards of total offense per game.
  • Brewer coached receiver Adarius Bowman to consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2006 and 2007, as Bowman totaled 1,181 yards in 2006 and 1,006 yards in 2007. Brewer also coached Dez Bryant to 622 receiving yards and a spot on Rivals.com's 2007 Freshman All-America second team.
  • Brewer's 2006 OSU corps featured a pair of the Big 12's top wideouts in D'Juan Woods and Bowman. Bowman was a first-team all-league selection and the Big 12 offensive newcomer of the year. Woods was a 2005 all-Big 12 pick and ended his career as OSU's third all-time leading receiver in both receptions and yards.
  • In 2005, Brewer helped Woods turn in his best season as a Cowboy (second-team all-Big 12 after hauling in 56 passes for 879 yards and eight touchdowns).
  • At North Carolina, he coached three receivers who rank among the top 20 in UNC history.
  • During his tenure at Carolina, Brewer coached record-setter Sam Aiken, and Chesley Borders (UNC single-game record four touchdowns at Arizona State). Carolina receivers helped the offense establish school records in passing yards per game, and completions. In 2004, the Tar Heels had eight receivers with 100 or more yards. As a unit, UNC receivers had 202 receptions for 2,573 yards and 18 touchdowns. Brewer also coached Jaworski Pollock, UNC's all-time receiving leader and single-season receptions leader (71 catches in 2003).
  • Add to the list of impressive pupils the accomplishments of Bowman, who set a Big 12 record with 13 catches for 300 yards and four touchdowns in the Cowboys' win at Kansas in 2006 (11th best game in NCAA history).
  • At Marshall, he coached 1997 Biletnikoff Award winner Randy Moss. In 1999, Marshall completed a perfect 13-0 season to earn a No. 10 final national ranking. In Brewer's four seasons at Marshall, the Thundering Herd had a 50-4 record.
  • He arrived at Carolina for the 2000 season and had four receivers catch at least 15 passes and average more than 15 yards per catch. The next season, Carolina had two receivers with 40 or more receptions for just the second time in school history. Also that season, Brewer's Carolina receivers tied a school record with 25 touchdown receptions.
